This Jeris itinerary brilliantly captures the essence of Lapland. Our trusted guides will make sure you get to experience the most popular and unique experiences the area has to offer.
This holiday is designed as an escape from the everyday and includes a host of unforgettable activities and encounters which will leave you feeling refreshed and exhilarated.
You will meet a reindeer herder and find out about their way of life and the importance of their animals before taking to a sleigh for a three-kilometre-long ride through the forests with the reindeer pulling you along. An unforgettable husky safari will really provide you with a connection to this area, while a snowmobile safari will take you further afield, pushing adrenaline levels higher.
Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing activities are both included, giving you the means to explore independently later in your stay should you wish. On one evening, a Northern Lights workshop and camp will have you fully prepared for spotting the Aurora, should they make an appearance. A visit to Torassieppi Winter Village, to marvel at its frozen rooms and ice sculptures, is also in the itinerary.
At the end of each day, you can relax by the fire in your winter cottage and enjoy your own private sauna.
For an extra-special end to your holiday, why not spend the night in one of the snow rooms at Torassieppi Winter Village, or in one of the stunning Aurora Domes which offer wonderful views of the night sky?
People of all ages. Although these holidays are principally operated for adults, due to the gentle nature of the activities there may on occasion be children participating in the activities (5 years and up) although this is primarily during the peak holiday periods and kept to a minimum. There may also be children staying in the same accommodation during peak holiday weeks.
If you would like to travel with children under the age of 18 then please see our sister company's website - Activities Abroad
"Jeris offers what I think is the ideal combination. You are in a magical setting, doing exceptional activities throughout the day and then at the end of every night you dine in a restaurant with lakeside views before returning to your own private cottage. Now I have nothing against hotels but there is something wonderful about having your own space. Your own place to relax at the end of the day, a fire to snuggle in front of and your own sauna that you can use any time you want. The best thing about Jeris is that you get the best of both worlds as all your meals are served in the hotel restaurant, excellent." Jo Doran
"This is a holiday that was among one of our best! We would love to go back and maybe do the 2 day husky trip. The people are very pleasant and the cabin was great." Fiona Cooper - Dec 10
DAY 1 Arrival
Upon arrival at Kittilä Airport, you will be transferred to Hotel Jeris which is around 45 minutes away. You can check into your cosy winter cottage accommodation before a welcome dinner in the hotel restaurant.
DAY 2 Husky Adventure And Aurora Workshop
Things get off to a relaxing start today as you will have the morning to make yourself at home and explore the beautiful winter surroundings. Lunch will be served in the restaurant and you’ll need to fuel up for the adventures ahead later in the afternoon.
After a transfer, it is time for you to experience the joy of dog sledding. You will meet with the eager huskies and enjoy a tour of the sled dog centre. Full instruction will be provided before you hit the trails (travelling two people per sled) for a 17km safari with the dogs. You can swap between driver and passenger at the midway point so you both get to take in the full experience. Enjoy a tour of the farm and take a 17 km safari, two persons per sled.
Tonight your guide will give you a better understanding of the science and myths which surround the Northern Lights. Afterwards, they will lead you to a nearby Aurora viewpoint where you will build a campfire and toast marshmallows whilst waiting patiently for a potential Aurora display.
DAY 3 Snowshoes, Kota Lunch And Cross-Country Skiing
Today is all about some of the most popular pastimes in Finland - snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
First on the agenda is snowshoeing, one of the oldest forms of travel in Lapland. The shoes allow you to explore areas of the wilderness that would otherwise be inaccessible in deep snow. During your trip, you will break in the forest and your guide will cook lunch in a traditional kota (wooden teepee) around a campfire.
In the afternoon, it is time to switch to cross-country skis. You will see families and adults alike taking to the trails around Jeris on skis and after a lesson with your guide, it will be your turn to enjoy the feeling of gliding through the forest.
After your activities, you will have time to relax in your private sauna before dinner.
DAY 4 Winter Village And Reindeer
Torassieppi Reindeer Farm and Winter Village are situated only 10 minutes from Jeris and provide guests with a wonderful experience.
Here you will visit a 100-year-old Lappish farmhouse and a small reindeer herding museum. After this initial insight, you will be able to try your hand at reindeer lassoing and drive a reindeer-pulled sleigh through the forests during a 3km sleigh ride.
After your reindeer encounters it’s only a short walk to the winter village where the ice restaurant, bar and sculptures await. You will get the chance to explore the impressive structures before lunch is served in the ice restaurant.
Back at Jeris, you can enjoy some time in the sauna before dinner.
DAY 5 Ice Fishing And Snowmobile Adventure
Another classic Arctic activity is on today’s agenda as you try your hand at ice fishing. On a frozen lake, your guide will help you drill through the ice and will provide hints and tips to help you lure in the fish.
After lunch back at the hotel, it’s time to up the adrenaline a little during a snowmobile safari. You will be given full driving instruction prior to setting off travelling two people per machine (you must have a driving licence to drive a snowmobile). You will cover around 30km over frozen lakes and through the delightful fell scenery.
DAY 6 Free Day
Today is free for you to spend however you wish. You can relax in the spa pools or smoke sauna or head out for some independent exploration on snowshoes or skis (hire is included for you today). Lunch will be served in the restaurant or you can take a packed lunch if you prefer.
Additional activities may be available should you wish to try your favourite again (payable locally).
This evening a very special Lappish dinner will be served at the hotel.
