Torassieppi provides all that is needed for an adventure in the heart of Lapland. Here you will be close to nature, enjoy clear skies with great Aurora potential and enjoy accommodation with an ecological focus.

A sister hotel to Harriniva, Torassieppi is set to become one of our most sought after destinations. The location is spectacular and you can combine this with the wonderful array of activities for which Harriniva has long been renowned.

Torassieppi is a reindeer farm which dates back to the 1840s; it is one of the most historic farms in Lapland and to this day provides guests with an insight into the life of a reindeer herder both past and present. The addition of the Torassieppi Winter Village nearby is a new development that heightens the attraction of this destination. The snow rooms (of which there are 10) and ice restaurant at the Winter Village just have to be seen and many guests enjoy a night in a cold room here as part of their stay (see price tab for details).

Torassieppi is the first one of the hotels in the Harriniva family to focus on organic and locally sourced foods. This is something new and exciting in a region where the local produce includes magnificent ingredients such as reindeer and lingonberry. You will get a real insight into this on the trip as you enjoy a cookery course with the chef here.

This fairly gentle holiday combines traditional Lappish experiences such as reindeer and husky safaris with a selection of snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and a dedicated nocturnal excursion in search of the Aurora Borealis.

Suitable for

Anybody aged 18 years or over.

Our Opinion

“Torassieppi Reindeer Farm has been a favourite with our guests for years when they visited as part of other holiday itineraries. The fact that you can now stay in this beautiful lakeside accommodation and enjoy activities such as dog sledding during the day and dedicated Northern Lights searches in the evenings is so exciting. You feel like you are really getting away from it all here and the sense of tradition and history that emanates from the reindeer farm and manor house is very special.” Amy Griffiths

Lainio Snow Village

Lainio Snow Village, located 200km above the Arctic Circle, is a marvel of snow and ice construction in the west of Finnish Lapland. Rebuilt annually, the hotel has a differing theme each season and showcases the incredible talent of local designers and architects through a marvellous village which covers 20,000 square metres.

A night at the Snow Village in one of their cold rooms is a delightful addition to your trip and an alternative to your final night at the hotel after which you will be transferred to the airport for your flights home.

Please be aware that your flights will most likely be departing in the late afternoon so you will have a free morning at Lainio. During this this time you can relax and make use of the hotel’s sauna, or perhaps hire snowshoes or cross country skis and explore the neighbouring region (all bookable and payable locally).

Hotel facilities
The Snow Village consists of 30 snow rooms and suites, in addition to a restaurant, bar, chapel and outdoor sculptures and slides which have all been beautifully designed and crafted from snow and ice.

Alongside the ice restaurant there is also a warm restaurant and you can choose to dine at either (subject to availability). The meals that are served here are hearty and wholesome and guests can sample some Finnish specialities such as reindeer and Arctic Char for dinner and enjoy a plentiful buffet for breakfast.

Beside the Snow Village there is a warm area where you will find the sauna, shower and toilet facilities, lounge area and a small selection of warm bedrooms should you find yourself unable to sleep in your cold room in the middle of the night.

Following your night in the cold room you will be awoken by a glass of warm berry juice.

Room types
Standard snow rooms
Each snow room has been crafted from snow and ice and contains a carved bed and bedside table. The beds are topped with a mattress and reindeer skins to keep in the warmth and you will sleep in high quality fleece lined sleeping bags. Before bed you will be given advice on how best to stay warm and what to wear for your overnight experience in the cold room.

Ice suites
The ice suites are similar to the snow rooms but are slightly larger in size and all reflect unique design in their art and lighting.

Day 1: Flights, transfers and introduction
Upon arrival at the airport you will be welcomed by your local guide before being transferred directly to your accommodation at Torassieppi. The journey here will take you through the increasingly wild and remote region of North Finland and you will see beautiful forested fells and frozen lakes spread across the snow-covered landscape.

Once you have reached the hotel you will have the chance to settle into your rooms before enjoying dinner in the restaurant with the rest of the group, followed by a brief introduction from your guide. The food here is wonderful with a focus on organic produce so you will be able to sample an array of wonderful treats throughout your stay.

Day 2: Local culture and handicrafts
After breakfast you will travel to the working reindeer farm which is just a short walk from the hotel. Reindeers are synonymous with Lapland with a history that dates back centuries and to this day they share an intrinsic link with the culture and economy of the area. You will be able to meet the reindeer, chat with the herder and ask him any questions you may have and will be able to visit the small on-site museum.

After lunch your day of culture will continue when you learn a very traditional handicraft called ‘pirtanauha’ which is colourful woollen ribbons plaits traditionally used as shoelaces, belts and key chains. You will be able to create a lovely souvenir to take home with you and gain further insight into the Sámi culture which is prevalent in this area.

Day 3: Cross-country skiing to National Park and local cookery course
Today you will participate in a very Finnish pastime as you try your hand at cross-country skiing which is somewhat of a national obsession in this region. Your guide will talk you through the basics and then you will set off on your skis and poles into the wilderness on the tracks that will lead you into the National Park. This is a lovely way to make the most of the landscape here and a wonderful way to see the surrounding nature. Afterwards you will have free use of the skis should you wish to explore further independently.

This afternoon you will be given a unique insight into Finnish cooking when you are given a cooking course from the chef here. They will showcase some of the traditional cooking techniques they use and the local meals they prepare. This is something that is new for this season, and we are very happy to be offering it to our guests on this trip.

Day 4: Snowshoe hike and Arctic spa

After breakfast, transfer to the Pallas Fell area, the biggest fell area in North West Finland. Famed for its breathtaking scenery, this is an idyllic area to strap on your snowshoes and go exploring. In total, you have around four hours in this beautiful area with a campfire snack en route.

You will then transfer to the Artic Spa located on the lakeside at Jeris. Here you get the chance to relax in the spa pools, take a dip in the icy waters of the frozen lake (for the healthy and fit only) and enjoy a traditional smoke sauna.

Dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant this evening.

Day 5: Husky safari
This morning you will be able to try out one of the most popular winter activities offered in this region as you head out on a delightful husky safari. You will be taken to a nearby husky farm where you will meet the eager dogs and be able to chat with the mushers. They will tell you all about the lives of the dogs in the region and the history and art of sledding.

After receiving instructions you will set out on a thrilling 25km husky safari across the snow. You will travel two people per sled with one person standing on the back controlling the brake and the other person sitting in the sled. There will also be the opportunity to swap over before you continue your journey into the forest.

You will return to the hotel for lunch and the rest of the afternoon is free for you to do as you wish.

Day 6: Free time
For those travelling on our 6-night departures, today will be your final day in Lapland and it has been left free for you to choose how you would like to spend it. You can explore independently or perhaps enjoy additional activities (payable locally). Breakfast and lunch will be served in the main restaurant and you will all enjoy a delicious meal complete with Finnish specialities this evening

Day 7: Free day or departure

For those travelling on a six-night long holiday then today you must bid farewell to Torassieppi and transfer to the airport for your flights home.

If you are staying on for the seventh night then you have another day to add in additional experiences and soak up your surroundings. Lunch and dinner are also included.

Day 8: Departure

For those travelling on our seven night holiday, it is now time to wave goodbye and you will transfer to the airport for your onward journey home.
